Brief: Women Talk About Animal Companions

12 p.m. Mar. 13 discussion on authors Zora Neale and Jesmyn Ward concerning female companions is in the Cottonwood Room in the Memorial Union. 

Intersections of gender, race and animality will be explored in human/dog relationships within the author’s books.

Animal figures are studied as metaphors for historical exclusion of nonwhites and women from a fully human status. Bonds between women and dogs will be presented with a feminist reevaluation of the connection between humans.
