The Washburn Women’s Soccer Team had a pretty good season overall. Their record at the end of the season was 9-9-1. Their season started with a stumble out of the gate. They lost their first two games of the season. However, they were not to be deterred, as they responded that with a strong six-game stretch where they won five games and ended one in a tie. One of those victories came against Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where the Ichabods outscored their opponent 5-0. An even more fascinating game was the tie. Washburn’s match against Emporia State was postponed at first, and then when they did finally meet, the game went into not one, but two overtimes and finally ended with neither team winning or losing. The Ichabods then finished their season, winning and losing with not much inclination towards either result. They did make it to the postseason, but were defeated in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. Overall, we had a season of ups and downs,” said Tia Stovall, the team’s assistant coach. “We efinitely demonstrated growth. I think after this season, we started to believe in our potential as a team. I’m excited to see where the belief takes us next season!”
The team’s leading scorers were Morgan El-Attrache with 11 points and Emily Stauffer with 7 points. The defense was very stout this year and posted six games in which they shutout their opponents.
The team had several players earn honors this season, including honor roll and all-MIAA honorable mentions.
Morgan El-Attrache was an all-MIAA honorable mention.
Kaitlin Minnich was an all-MIAA honorable mention and on the MIAA academic honor roll.
Paige Swanson won the MIAA Academic Excellence Award and was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
