With the end of the semester, finals are coming near. This is the time when students are seen as more stressed. Here are a few easy strategies that I find helpful and that have helped me to manage stress and gain focus during this time.
Planning your time ahead can be the most crucial way to be organized. To do this, plan your day ahead of time. Set aside more time for the subjects that you feel are difficult and keep revisiting the material. But don’t neglect the easy subjects. Keep studying it too. Organizing activities into manageable chunks will help them feel less daunting.
Hours of nonstop study sessions can wear you out. Rather, use the POMODORO method to study for half an hour straight without distractions and take a break for 5 minutes. After you complete such sessions three times, take a longer break before starting the process over.
One of the best ways to lower stress is to exercise. For this you can go to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, play some sports with your friends, go to the gym or even spend time in the sauna, which will make you relaxed.
Eat wholesome foods like fruits, vegetables and nuts to fuel your body. Drink lots of water and avoid overindulging in junk food or coffee, as these might worsen your condition over time.
Sleep is really important for our bodies. In order to store what you learn and to learn new things your brain must function properly and one way to do so is to have adequate amounts of sleep. Aim for six to eight hours of sleep, and rather than pushing yourself to continue if you’re too exhausted, take a quick nap.
Always seek help from your friends or your counselor if you’re experiencing too much stress. There are always individuals that want to help and you’re not alone.
