Health Major Day

From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the Memorial Union, organizations will be seeking out students interested in health care for careers and internships. This is also an opportunity to get more information about the health care field.

Understanding Faith

Beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Henderson Learning Resources Center, a discussion panel will be held. The speakers will include Professor Bassima Schbley, Iman Omar Hazim, Professor Chris Jones, and Abdul Alzoubi.                                                                                                  

Week Without Violence Poetry Workshop

From 1 p.m. to 2:30 pm on Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Union Underground there will be a Poetry Workshop to lead up to the Week Without Violence Poetry Reading on Oct.17. Everyone is encouraged to attend, and no poetry writing experience is needed.

Throw Night

At 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 in room 120 in the Art Building there will be a chance to throw and glaze a ceramic piece. This event costs $5 and is hosted by the Washburn Art Club. There will also be a student art sale in room 125 during the workshop.

Faculty Showcase Concert

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 in White Concert Hall, the Faculty Showcase Concert will be held. This will feature the Washburn University MeadowLark Faculty Woodwind Trio, Washburn University Bluestem Faculty Woodwind Quintet with guest pianist Shiao-Li Ding, the Washburn University Faculty Brass Quintet and soprano Andrea Garritano. 

Fridays with Farley

From 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.  Friday, Oct. 13 in the Union Underground, Dr. Farley will be discussing events and issues concerning the campus. Cookies, iced tea, and iced water will be served, the event is free to any Washburn students.

Movie Night on the Jumbotron

From 5:30 p.m to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Yager Stadium, there will be a showing of the movie Monsters University. Registration is required beforehand at wualumni.org/movienight, and the entrance fee is a donation of one non-perishable food item per attendee. Blankets are allowed on the turf and there will be concessions available for purchase.

Ad Astra Kansas Space Celebration

Starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending at p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Washburn University’s Stoffer Science Hall the eighth annual Ad Astra Kansas Space Celebration will be held. Activities such as space ice cream demos, paper rocketry,  astronomy displays, and an interactive engineering activity will take place at the event. This is a free event that is open to the public.

Week Without Violence

A Week Without Violence starts on Monday, Oct. 16 and will go on until Sunday, Oct. 22 on the Washburn campus. There will be various events held throughout the week to bring awareness to the effects and presence of domestic violence.

Reading and Book Signing with Robert Rebein

At 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16 in Mabee Library, Robert Rebein will be reading passages from his newest book “Headlights on the Prairie-Essays on Home.” There will be books available for purchase and a signing after the reading. This event is free to all Washburn students.

Poetry Speak Out

From 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the Union Underground, there will be a poetry session for participants to listen to or read out loud poetry concerning domestic violence. This event is free to the public.

Crane Observatory Viewing

From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Stoffer Science Hall there will be an open viewing of the observatory. Attendants will hopefully be able to see Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. This event is free to the public.
