The women’s basketball team traveled to Wichita Nov. 28 to play the Newman Jets. The Jets were 6-4 for the season, while the Ichabods were 6-1.

The Ichabods started the game off strong, leading the Jets 30-25 in the first half. The team outscored the Jets consistently, as well as shooting 44.4 percent from the three point line.

Axelle Bernard, senior forward, lead the Ichabods at the half with 7 points. In the second half, however, she struggled to maintain that momentum, as did the rest of the team. The Ichabods scored just 7 points in the third quarter, while the Jets put up 14 points. Over the course of the second half, the Ichabods continued to struggle to regain their momentum.

The Jets won against the Ichabods with a final score of 45-52.

Alexis McAfee, sophomore guard, was ultimately proud of her team’s performance throughout the game.

With the Ichabods Alexis McAfee stating “We just couldn’t get into rhythm offensively so that hurt us for sure,” McAfee said. “But I thought our defence was [pretty good at] keeping their team to that low of a score.”

Bernard said that the team will need to continue to train in order to finish strong this season.

“I think we just have to work hard like we’ve been doing these last couple weeks,” Bernard said. “[And we need to] keep working hard in practice to get that sense of playing together and playing hard even when we’re down in a game to get that fight in us.”

Up next, the Ichabods will host a home game against the 7-0 Fort Hays State Tigers. The game will be 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Lee Arena.
