Women’s cross country with balanced effort in MIAA Championship

The Washburn women’s cross country team finished eighth out of 11 teams in the MIAA Championship meet in Kearney, Nebraska on Oct. 23.

The team ended with a total of 183 points, led by senior Sierra Mortensen, who earned a 12th place finish with a time of 22:59.66 to earn all MIAA honorable mention honors. Behind her was sophomore Patricia Koma who finished in 25th with a time of 23:28.80. Junior Lily Johnson was also in the top 30, finishing 30th with a time of 23:35.97.

Freshman Eve Weber was next, placing 61st overall with a time of 24:39.52. A trio of Washburn runners finished close behind to round out the scoring, starting with sophomore Dulce Ayala-Chanez in 67th with a time of 24:47.61. Right behind were junior Luz Lopez Gonzalez and freshman Verena Vesely in 71st. 3.

Sophomore Kelsie Dent and junior Avery Hoffpauir also finished in the top-75 to complete a balanced team performance.

On Nov. 6 the Ichobods will travel to Joplin, Missouri for the NCAA Central Regional Championships where the top three teams of the meet will advance to Nationals, alongside the top 18 individuals not associated with any of the teams.
