Swinging into the fall semester, freshmen and new students were greeted by a fun packed week of orientation. The six events, interspersed throughout registration and the first days of class, were designed to acquaint the students with the campus, student leaders, organization, and with each other. Several “firsts” highlighted the elaborate program.

The Activities Fair, held Monday evening, September 15, was a new feature on the Washburn campus. Twenty-four clubs set up booths around the Ichabod room to display literature, pictures, and talk with the ore than 350 students who flocked to the Union. A program, including Hawaiin dances, piano selections, a Modern Dance Club number, and a dramatic presentation from the Westside Story kept the crowd entertained. “The Merits of the Freshman Beanie” was given a humorous slant by two debaters. Gay decorations added to the carnival atmosphere.

Another first was the Splash party held Saturday afternoon in Whiting pool. Students swam to music, played several water games, and were presented exhibition numbers by Dolphin Club members.

Acting as hosts for the week were Student Council members who began as early as last May to plan this fall’s program. With the help of other students, faculty, and administration, they commenced in August to put them into effect.
