Coming off there victories over Emporia State and Northwest Missouri last week, the No. 2 ranked Lady Blues took on the Lady Tigers of Fort Hays State Wednesday night. The Lady Blues and Lady Tigers renewed their rivalry after a six year hiatus. The last time these two teams played one another was back in the 2000-2001 season, with the Lady Blues coming out on top. The Lady Blues lead the series against Fort Hays State, 31-25, and are to a six game-winning streak. The rivalry can be expected to continue with Fort Hays State coming into the MIAA this season.
The Lady Blues jumped out to an early and held the Lady Tigers scoreless for the first three minutes, taking a 29-4 lead at 12:08 into the game and never looking back. The Lady Blues went into the half leading the Lady Tigers 37-13.
The second half began pretty much as the first half, with the Lady Blues scoring fast and pushing the lead even higher. The Lady Blues went up by 30 points off of a jump shot inside the paint by Senior guard Nikki Holmes at the 8:22 mark of the second half. The Lady Blues never let up and never looked back, extending there lead to 44 points, ending the game 78-34.
Junior forward Amanda Holmes lead the Lady Blues in scoring with 16 points. Seniors Cindy Keeley and Brooke Ubelaker followed suit with 15 and 13 points respectively. As a whole the Lady Blues bench scored 23 points total.
The Lady Blues ended there three game homestand a perfect 3-0, and are now 4-1 in the MIAA and 13-1 overall. The Lady Blues are on the road this Saturday, January 13, against the Truman Bulldogs. Tip-off is at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Blues then head back to Lee Arena next week for two games. On Wednesday, January 17, the Lady Blues will take on Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m. and then against Pittsburgh State on Saturday, January 20, at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Blues/Pitt State game will be covered live on KTWU.
