“Lights, Camera, Auction!”
It’s that time of year, and once again KTWU-TV hosted their 20th “Lights, Camera, Auction” fundraiser Nov. 3-6.
The event started at 7 p.m. Thursday with Sports Night, continued Friday where celebrity items were featured in Celebrity Item night. Saturday was Art Night, which was followed by Sunday’s Major Donation Night which featured higher priced item tickets worth $1,000 or more.
“Lights, Camera, Auction” is an annual fundraiser for KTWU. It started back in 1980 when it was held only intermittently. The money that is brought in is then used to help pay for the programming that KTWU-TV does through non-local broadcasters.
“Programming costs money, and just like everything else those rates go up. We have to pay for the shows that our viewers watch, all except those that are produced here locally,” said Marge Rightmeier, auction manager for KTWU-TV.
Rightmeier also said that they were expecting to bring in a lot of money this year and they’re going to need it.
“Last year we brought in close to $40,000. This year we hope to make closer to $50,000,” said Rightmeier. “We need some new digital equipment.”
As of 8:10 p.m. Sunday, they had received $40,072 for auctioned items.
