Karen Travis works as an office assistant in the Student Activities and Greek Life office, but will leave Washburn soon to accept a job as an administrative assistant at the Kansas chapter of The Nature Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife preservation and land conservation. Travis worked in the SAGL office for one year, and her duties included working with student organizations, keeping track of the office’s finances, training student desk workers and preparing events.

The Nature Conservancy’s headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and it has been in existence since 1917 but only under its current name since 1951. The organization does work in all 50 states and in 30 countries.

At The Nature Conservancy Travis will be responsible for several vital tasks that are often overlooked but are essential to an organization’s success.

“It’s something I’m really interested in,” said Travis. “Protecting the environment for plants and animals,”

To show gratitude for the invaluable service that Travis has provided for Washburn and to wish her well, a going-away party was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29 in the lower level of Memorial Union.
