The Jayhawk Theatre closed its doors in May of 1976 after entertaining the city of Topeka for 50 years.

In the early 90s, the theatre was going to be demolished and made into a parking lot, but people stepped forward on behalf of the theatre to save it and restore it with the intentions of eventually re-opening it.
