VIDEO: Stovall delights WU

Natalie Stovall fiddles for a group of students Monday night.

Country singer/fiddlist Natalie Stovall performed last Monday night in the Washburn Room of the Memorial Union.

Stovall, who has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and sang “God Bless America” for President George W. Bush, treated the less-than capacity audience to a mixture of original and cover songs.

“Some of my biggest influences right now are Keith Urban, and I love Garth Brooks and Shania Twain-anyone who really focuses on putting on a really great live show,” said Stovall. “That’s what I love, because the live show is where I feel at home.”

Stovall said her earliest exposure to fiddling came from her Grandma.

“My Grandma saw an ad in the newspaper for violin lessons and asked me if I wanted to play,” said Stovall. “I’m not for sure I knew what it was but I said OK, and I started playing violin, and I just loved being on stage.”
