No. 7 Lady Blues sweep Tigers

TOPEKA, Kan. — The No. 7 Washburn Lady Blues volleyball made quick work of Fort Hays State in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19) win on Wednesday night at Lee Arena. The win was the eighth straight for the Lady Blues, who now stand at 23-2 overall and 7-2 in MIAA play.

Washburn jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and never looked back en route to the three-set win. The Lady Blues never trailed in the first two sets and didn’t trail until 1-0 to start the third set.

Sophomore middle hitter Mollie Lacy, the MIAA Hitter of the Week, had a team-high 10 kills and hit .500 with just one error. Lacy also added five blocks. Senior setter Kate Hampson, the MIAA Specialist of the Week, led the team with 22 assists, while freshman libero/defensive specialist Tessa Brophy had a team-high 12 digs.

Washburn hit .255 as a team with 36 kills and held Fort Hays State to a .083 attack percentage.

The Lady Blues travel to Emporia this Friday for the Turnpike Tussle against the Hornets. Friday’s match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at White Auditorium. Washburn will return home next Tuesday for Think Pink night when Northwest Missouri State comes to Lee Arena at 7 p.m.
