Capital City Marching Band Festival set for Oct. 21

TOPEKA- Students from area high schools will participate in the annual Capital City Marching Band Festival at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl, Washburn University. Gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students. Children under the age of six will be admitted free.

Marching bands, color guards and drum lines will showcase their best half-time performances for evaluation. Bands will be evaluated and presented awards based on musical performance, entertainment value and marching and maneuvering.

Schools participating are Highland Park High, Leavenworth High, Mission Valley High, Seaman High, Shawnee Heights High, Topeka West High, and Washburn Rural High.

The Washburn University Fighting Blues Marching Band and Dancing Blues will also present their 2009 show “Music from the American Song Book” after the high school performances.

If weather is unfavorable, the event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28.
