Washburn University reports a 9 percent increase in enrollment for the fall 2010 semester, with a total of 7,230 students enrolled in 78,816 credit hours.

           

“Everyone at the university is very pleased about the new growth in enrollment.,” said Jerry B. Farley, president of Washburn University. “Increases such as these reflect the dedication of our faculty and staff and verify the success of our recruitment programs.”

           

The fall 2010 enrollment is the third highest ever for Washburn, being topped only by the headcounts in the fall semesters of 2004 and 2005. The 78,816 credit hours are also notable, ranking as the fourth highest in the history of the school. Other enrollment highlights include:

• Increase in credit hours:  6 percent
• Increase in first-time freshman class: 12 percent
• A significant increase in high school students taking college classes at Washburn, from 94 last fall to nearly 400 students this fall semester.
• Enrollment grew at all levels, with a 6 percent increased reported for both graduate programs and the School of Law.
