Lady Blues blanked by Mavericks

The Washburn Lady Blues were shutout by Nebraska-Omaha 3-0 on Saturday night in Yager Stadium. Washburn will be back in action on Oct. 21 when they will play host to Missouri Western at 6 p.m.

Washburn trailed at the half 1-0 after UNO’s Hilary Horvatic scored unassisted from 21 yards out on a shot from the right side into the far left corner of the goal in the 19th minute staking the Mavericks to an early lead.
 
Neither team was able to score in the first 35 minutes of the second half until UNO’s Danielle Archuleta scored the first of her two second half goals in the 80th minute on an assist from Maggie Olson. Olson had a point-blank shot which was stopped by Washburn’s Ashley Klone, but the rebound was put into the far coner of the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. Archuleta added her second goal a little over eight minutes later unassisted from 10 yards out.
 
Lauren Fox picked up the shutout win for the Mavericks, her fourth of the season.
 
Washburn was outshot 11 to 9 and 7 to 5 in the second half.
 
Klone finished with seven saves and Stefanie Stuever, Lauren Henry and Caysie Beetley each had two shots. Tia Stoval and Stuever had shots on goal for the Lady Blues.
