The Lady Blues take on and defeat the Bearcats

The Lady Blues traveled to Maryville Missouri September 20, 2011 to battle the Northwest Missouri Bearcats.  The number 6 ranked Lady Blues started set one off with a bang as Junior Hillary Hughes threw down a kill.  Northwest Missouri would not be able to contend much with the Blues after that, losing 25-13.

In set two, the Lady Blues came out with a tremendous defensive effort led by six-foot Junior Jessica Fey to keep the Bearcats in check.   The Lady Blues would allow only 16 points in their victory of set two.  After halftime the Bearcats came out alive and clawing for set three.  The Lady Blues were barely able to overcome the efforts by the Bearcats winning by a narrow margin of 25-20.

The victory was led by Hughes, with nine kills along with eight digs.  Sophomore Abby Wittman totaled an astonishing twenty assists on offense for the Blues, as Fey contributed eight kills and led the defense with four blocks.  The Lady Blues can accredit the win to their .295 hitting percentage compared to the Bearcat’s .044.
