I can still remember sitting in my living room at three years old, listening and singing along to ‘Rainbow Connection’ by Kermit the Frog (voiced by Jim Henson) in the 1979 film ‘The Muppet Movie.

Although I was born in 1990, the year Jim Henson passed away, at the age of four I watched reruns of ‘The Muppet Show’ and watched all of the films that were out by that time including ‘The Great Muppet Capper,’ ‘The Muppets Take Manhattan’ and ‘A Muppet Christmas Carol.’

As I grew up it seemed so did ‘The Muppets’.  I was not a big fan of ‘Muppet Treasure Island.’  I believe I was about six years old at the time and I can still remember how the movie seemed just way too long and could not entertain me.

When ‘Muppets from Space’ came out I admit I didn’t even bother to see it, it seemed by the time I hit ten I had sadly forgotten about ‘The Muppets.’

Last fall I went through a phase, where I began watching old childhood movies that I grew up with such as ‘A Goofy Movie,’  Toy Story’ and ‘The Lion King.’  It wasn’t until I was sitting in my cinematography class that one of my class mates, before class started was playing a YouTube video of The Muppets singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and I loved it and then it was as if lightning struck me as I remembered my love of these characters.  The first thing I did when I went home that day was get on YouTube and listen to ‘Rainbow Connection’ and even though I was 20 by that time I was still the same three year old kid sitting in his living room singing along.  For Christmas that year my brother  bought me ‘The Muppet Movie’ on DVD and it was one of the happiest moments of my life to say the least.

After I became reunited with The Muppet movies, I became curious as to what the hell happened to them and when I saw that Disney was planning the release of a new Muppet movie this upcoming year I could not believe it.  But when I finally saw the trailer watching ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ I saw that it was actually true.

I know that many original Muppet fans have high expectations for this upcoming film like myself.  I know that some fans won’t even give the movie a try since Frank Oz will not be doing any of the voices.

“I wasn’t happy with the script. I don’t think they respected the characters, said Oz in a recent article.

As co-writer and star of the ‘The Muppets’ (which hits theaters tomorrow) Jason Segel responded to Oz’s criticism in an article by www.movieline.com saying that he wishes Oz had at least watched the film.

“I don’t think you walk away feeling anything but that it’s a total love letter to the Muppets. I get being scared of some new blood coming in, and thinking, “What are they going to do to this?” But I have a hunch that if he sees it, he’s going to walk out feeling really proud of having creating this legacy.”

I have seen all the previews for this movie and have read enough articles and even watched Segel host Saturday Night Live last week, opening up the show with the Muppet characters to know that he does care and as a huge fan of these characters and Jim Henson I am willing to give this movie a shot and I feel that evolving the film the way Segel is talking is necessary as the entertainment value of children is very different.

I can’t explain truly how excited I am about this upcoming film as well as nervous but either way I am going to give this movie a shot and no matter what I am going to enjoy seeing those classic characters on the big screen once again.
