Second Annual Tail on the Trail 5k Run/Walk set for 11/11/11

Pet lovers and animal advocates will have a chance to support their local Topeka animal shelter while getting some exercise this Saturday with a 5k race sponsored by the Helping Hands Humane Society.

November 5 marks the second annual Tails on the Trail. Last year boasted successful fundraising efforts with over 200 participants and $10,000 in donations for the Helping Hands Humane Society. Those funds were used to provide two new dog kennels for the organization.

The Helping Hands Humane Society is a non-profit organization working towards animal welfare. They strive toward providing animals homes, spade and neutering efforts, and community education about animal issues according to the group’s website.

The event will consist of a 5k run and walk with registration requiring a $40 donation. Participants are able to bring their pets to run or walk with as indicated by the event’s name.

Registration is available on the Helping Hands website at hhhstopeka.org. Participants are also able to register the day of the event, starting at 9 a.m. The race begins 10 a.m. at Shawnee North Community Park, 300 NE 43rd Street.
