Students play during the night at ‘All Night at the Rec’

Students recently had the opportunity to attend the All Night at the Rec event. This event took place at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on campus. Students were able to enter the Wellness Center between 11:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. At midnight, the doors were locked and no one was able to enter the facility after that time. The event itself normally lasts until around 2:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.

Any student that has access to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center was able to attend this event. This includes all Washburn University students and also all post-secondary Washburn Tech students. The only other requirement to be able to attend this event was that students had to have their student ID card in order to enter the facility and participate in the event.

Opening ceremonies were held in the gym from 12:00 a.m. to 12:10 a.m.  A brief overview was given of the night’s events. White shirts were available at this time for students to pick up if they were interested in doing Tie Dye.

There was a large variety of activities available for students to participate in. Rock climbing was available 12:15am-2:30am. Contests were available for students to do in the gym. Equipment was available to play basketball, pickle ball, and badminton in the gymnasium. A volleyball net was set up and teams of 3 played against each other. They played to a point and the winner stayed out on the court, while the loser went back to the line.

Giant 4 Square was available for students to participate in beginning at 12:45 a.m. Bean Bags, Washers, and Ladder Ball were available on the track from 12:15 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

There were cards, poker chips, dice, and board games available in the Ichabod Room from 12:15 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.

A ‘Say Cheese!’ Photo Booth was available in the Fitness Loft from 12:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. ‘Minute To Win It!’ was available for students to take part in from 12:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Bucket Pong was also available for students as well.

There was also free food available for the students that attended this event. Water and sports drinks were available that were donated by the Memorial Union. There was also pizza available. All food arrived after the doors locked at midnight. Each student received a food and drink ticket as they entered the SRWC. The ticket could be redeemed for food at the front desk between 12:15 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
